Master John Cantin

Has been teaching professionally for over 15 years.  Helping children achieve goals and heights that they and their families never thought possible.

 A 5^th Degree black belt in the art of Kyukido, Master Cantin studies under Grand Master Kim the founder of Kyukido.  Master Cantin also holds black belt ranks in and teaches the arts of Judo, JuiJitsu, and Hapkido.

 

Master Cantin graduated from UW-LaCrosse in 1990 and worked several years as a computer consultant.  For two years he worked for Grand Master Kim in Elgin, IL before purchasing the Crystal Lake school from Mr. Jim Goresky

 

Our Goals

Our main goal is to help you become a more successful person. 

Some martial art schools teach you how to fight, we teach you how NOT to get into a fight. 

We will teach your child to be a person who does the right thing...no matter what other people think; and that loyalty, integrity, and kindness will lead to genuine popularity!

 

Who We Are

You may not have known this, but the teachers at most Martial Art schools are people who teach the Martial Arts as a hobby.  They work a full-time job in another profession and teach the Martial Arts in their spare time.

AKF Martial Arts Academy is owned and operated full time by Master John Cantin and his wife Tanya (who is also a black belt in Kyukido). 

Their 2 daughters, Jenny and Rachel, also train and are working towards their black belts! 

 

School History

AKF Martial Arts Academy was established in 1981 as Kim’s Black Belt Academy by Grand Master Ok Hung Kim and Mr. Jim Goriesky.  The school was bought in 1995 by Master Cantin.  In 2000 Master Cantin and his wife took over 1500 additional square feet of their building and started Martial pArts, a martial arts supply company.  Martial pArts is the only complete martial arts supply store in the NW suburbs.

October of 2007 we moved to our newly expanded location.  Featuring of 7000 sq feet and over 40 parking spots our new location is just a mile from the new Super Walmart
